The Comenius Project
Comenius Project 2009 - 2011:
"Man & Nature in the New Europe"
This was a Comenius project between schools in Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland
and Sweden. The project was called Man and Nature in the New Europe. The schools
involved in the project were: the Liceo Scientifico "A.Avogadro", in the town of
Biella (in northern Italy); the Ernst Barlach Gymnasium, in the town of Guestrow (in
Pomerania, the northeast of Germany); the Pobalscoil Iosolde, in Palmerstown (outside
of Dublin); the Liceum Ogolnok im Boleslawa, Chrobrego, in Gryfice (in Pomerania, in
the northwest of Poland); and IT-Gymnasiet, in Göteborg, (on the Swedish west coast).
The project ran from 2009 - 2011.
The project put emphasis on the environmental aspects in "The New Europe". By "The
New Europe" we meant the Europe that have emerged since the separation of it - after
the Seconds World War - finally ceased to exist in the late 1980s, and during the unification in the 1990s
and 2000s.
The participating schools/countries put focus on "Alternative Energy", such as Sun,
Wind and Water. In different assignments we divided ourselves into 3 different groups:
Poland dealt with "Sun"; Germany and Ireland dealt with "Wind"; and Italy and
Sweden dealt with "Water".
We visited each other's countries and schools in turns, and learnt about our different
countries (history/society), cities, schools, and even some cultural differences (customs),
as well as working with the mutual assignments for the alternative energy project. Our
students were mostly staying with the hosting student's families when visiting the other
countries.
We divided the setting of the project into 2 main parts. The first year we focused on
the scientific aspects; culminating in laboratory experiments at an Eco Centre in Lipie,
Poland in the spring of 2010 (but also with an Eco fashion show, and an Eco March).
The second year we focused on the more artistic approaches, with some showcasings
in Göteborg, Sweden, and in Biella, Italy. We also had presentations/showcasings in
Germany and Ireland.
The project resulted in some specific "products": a PDF-book, (this) homepage, flyers,
and films/DVD:s, which were handed in to the national as well as the central agencies of
the EU-organisation.
This was also a project attached to the European network of eTwinning. Hence we also
used their digital platform, and also a parallel platform called Twinspace. Adress:

The project was very appreciated by everyone involved (students and teachers alike),
and gave all of us some really unique experiences - assignment-wise as well as on an
individual level - and we also got to know new people, visiting other schools in other
European countries, and enhanced our awareness of important environmental/energy
issues. (A perspective so crucial for us all in the coming future - but which was also
reflected upon in a more historic perspective in the project).
This homepage shows a little of what we did in the project over 2 years. Feel free to look
around inside and see some of the things/activities taking place.

I see them bloom, for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world"
